Fireside clear nesting pyrex bowls4/5/2024 ![]() ![]() A search for definitive answers about lead in vintage Pyrex originating from any source other from Rubin was difficult." Tl dr: "The claims appeared to originate with a single individual (Rubin) testing vintage Pyrex for lead in a non-laboratory environment and using undisclosed methods. It's great that you're looking out for your kid's safety! But your Pyrex is probably okay to use :) I was also disappointed that vintage corelle plates had detectable lead in the design around the plate. ![]() I still love pyrex and I would love to keep collecting, maybe I will again one day when my kid is grown up! But I always used my pyrex for serving food, and now I feel like it's not a safe practice for my family. I also tested my Fireside tinted pyrex and it was negative, so I have to assume the issue is the paint and not tinted, white or clear glass. Just something to keep in mind if you use your colored pyrex for cooking or baking. The milk glass part of the bowls were negative and I know this is where the food touches, the only parts of the bowls that were positive were the outside where the designs are. The Pyrex that tested positive was basically everything I own and any of the parts with color, which included Crazy Daisy, Blue Snowflake Garland, Forest Mushroom, and American Heritage. The Corelle I have that tested positive for lead in the design was Crazy Daisy plates, Woodland Brown plates, and the Wildflower casserole dish. The only items that tested positive were older. I also tested MODERN corelle (from the 90s and later) and the paint on the designs of the plates and bowls did not test positive. I did test lots of other items I own which did not test positive and washed my hands between each test. Just sharing the results of my personal experiment. ![]() Just thought I'd let the community know I've seen posts about lead on here before so I know its something most of you are aware of. I also tested a green paint design on the outside of a Glasbake which was high in lead. But I have a 1 year old in the house now so I'm being a bit cautious. and the paint on all the colored vintage items were positive for lead using 3M Lead Check swabs :\ I'm pretty bummed as I've been collecting for years. ![]()
